Ayurveda is a complete medical science that originated iIndia more thasix thousand years ago. Westerhealthcare systems are based ostatistical models of healing. Rather thahealing the individual who has a disease, westermedicine focuses ohealing only the disease. Statistics tell physicians what method will alleviate the symptoms of disease imost people. This method is useful for improving public health but does little for the individual who does not fit into the statistical norm. Ayurveda understand that each persois a unique individual and each person’s path towards health and healing is equally unique.
Ayurveda is based othe idea that each persohas a fundamental balance of energies itheir body, which makeup their particular constitution. If a persoexposes himself to environmental influences (sound, colour, aroma & food) that are not harmonious with their fundamental nature, disease will result. Ayurvedic experts (knowas “Vaids” iIndia) determine why the body is not functioning harmoniously and helps to re-establish a harmonious lifestyle, people heal and diseases no longer express themselves.
Ayurveda understands that symptoms are the body’s way of communicating disharmony. Wheaarea of disharmony is corrected, the symptoms disappear. By contrast the Westermethod of drug treatment defines cure as the alleviatioof symptoms. This is most ofteaccomplished by providing patients a drug that covers up symptoms. This method essentially silences the body’s voice. With the voice (symptom) silenced, a persois able to continue a disharmonious lifestyle. However, the body’s voice can’t be silenced forever. Eventually either the symptoms returor new symptoms emerge-oftesevere thathe original.
There exists many health-care systems and each has its owidea about the cause and correctioof disease. Ayurved is unique ithat, it begins with aunderstanding of a persophysically, emotionally and spiritually. Other systems only address either the physical body or the mind. Ithis way Aurveda is truly holistic.
